Poker is a game of chance, which is played using cards and betting. The winning hand is determined based on the best five-card combination. There are also many more poker variants. The most popular are community card poker, lowball and seven-card stud. Each variant involves different betting and card dealing procedures. Some have additional rules for players, such as the ability to discard some of their cards before they are dealt. A few games feature a wild card, which may be a joker or another card.
Some versions of the game award the pot to the player with the lowest-ranked hand. Other games, such as Texas hold ’em, award the pot to the player with the best hand. This is the main difference between the two.
